The Heavenly King questioned reporters for criticising Luhan’s performance in The Great Wall

Veteran actor Andy Lau has stood up for his The Great Wall co-star Luhan, who was called out for his poor acting in the movie.

Addressing reports calling Luhan the “bad apple” of the cast and for not being able to carry the role of a soldier in the Zhang Yimou-directed Hollywood-China co-production, Andy, who filmed a fair amount of scenes with Luhan in the movie, praised the former EXO member for his professionalism and positive work attitude at a recent press conference.

The 55-year-old even revealed that he took it upon himself to question the media on said reports.

“Yesterday, I asked a few media to speak up if they think that he’s not good enough, but nobody was willing to clarify [what was written],” he said.

On that note, Andy turned to Luhan and jokingly remarked, “Don’t worry, I’ve already scolded them on your behalf yesterday!”

To further reassure the young actor, Andy shared his past experiences as a newbie during his salad days and said he was often criticised for his poor acting too, before becoming a ‘best actor’ today.

“It’s a good thing you guys appeared, because I started to learn how to act as a result of that,” he jokingly added, in bid to lighten the atmosphere of the press conference.

The Great Wall is director Zhang Yimou’s first English film and also stars Matt Damon, Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal and Willem Dafoe. It is rated PG and opens in Singapore on December 29.
