Angelababy was paid S$44 million for drama comeback?
The model-actress work studio strongly refuted the rumours
Fans of Hong Kong model-actress Angelababy have been all abuzz recently after a number of Weibo accounts reporting on entertainment news alleged that the 28-year-old is being paid RMB$220 million (approximately S$44 million) for her role in the drama, Entrepreneurial Age.
As the drama will be the model-actress’s first project since giving birth to her son, nicknamed “Little Sponge”, in January this year, the news of Angelababy’s involvement in Entrepreneurial Age received much attention.
Recently, numerous Weibo-based entertainment media outlets shared that the Angelababy will be paid RMB$5 million (approximately S$1 million) per episode for the drama, and will be RMB$200 million (approximately $44 million) richer by the time the drama ends.
The hefty price tag got the attention of both fans and netizens alike, with some criticising the overtly-high fees paid to Angelababy.
On Monday, the model-actress’s work studio posted on Weibo, denying the rumours by uploading screen shots of the various reports and posts, and photoshopping the word “fake” all over them.
Angelababy’s work studio also criticised the “evil marketing” done by these outlets, and declared that they “refuse to be burdened and have their image tarnished by such malicious reports”.
The denial drew mixed responses from fans, with some of them demanding for the work studio to take further action and sue the rumour-mongers, while some expressed their unconditional support for Angelababy.
Angelababy gave birth to Little Sponge in January this year. She and her actor husband Huang Xiaoming, 39, were recently sighted holidaying in America by fans. The celebrity couple married in 2015.
