One phone call from Taiwanese singer Jimmy Lin was all it took for an onscreen reunion of 19 years to take place. When Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung and Taiwanese singer-actor Richie Jen first worked together, they played star-crossed lovers in 1999 Hong Kong movie Fly Me to Polaris. This time round, in Jimmy’s new music video for
‘The Roses in My Eye’, the two stars play out a modern-day love story scenario, and fall in love after spending time under the same roof as landlord and tenant.

According to Jimmy, Cecilia agreed to the role immediately after learning about it through his phone call, and was excited to visit Taiwan for it.

Richie also praised Jimmy for holding the record as the youngest singer to hold performances in the Hong Kong Coliseum (he was 18 at that time). “I was there! For every single show!” Cecilia excitedly chimed in.As the pair

agreed to star in his music video without taking any remuneration, Jimmy expressed his heartfelt gratitude, and promised to return the favour when they need his help in the future.

‘The Roses in My Eye’ is produced by Jimmy’s good friend and local singer JJ Lin, and he recorded the song while reflecting on his nine-year marriage with his wife, Taiwanese model Kelly Chen.
