Christine Fan praised for being a good daughter-in-law

Christine Fan will be making a highly-anticipated return to the Taipei Arena following a four-year hiatus. A press conference was held yesterday (Aug 23) to announce ticketing details and well-wishes from her loved ones poured in.

Her mother-in-law recorded a video praising Christine for being respectful as well as being brave enough to risk her life to have twins Ryan and River, warming the hearts of netizens.

The video showed Blackie Chen’s mother thanking Christine for being such a good daughter-in-law. The elderly lady spoke about how courageous she thought Christine was during and after her pregnancy with the twins and got a little emotional talking about it.

“Christine always has a smile on her face and speaks to everyone demurely. She is also very filial, kind, and positive. My son is lucky to have her as a wife but I am luckier to have her as my daughter-in-law,” she said.

In 2014, Christine had to undergo more than 10 injections to trigger ovulation due to her being of a more mature age (she was 38 years old then). The treatments were eventually successful and she became pregnant with twins. However her pregnancy journey was not easy as it caused her to gain weight of nearly 20 kilograms as well as having to urinate frequently. On top of these, the actress also experienced severe hair loss and insomnia at night, causing her to put her career temporarily on hold.

Christine was sent to the labour ward in January 2015, one month before her due date because of the premature rupture of the membranes holding the amniotic fluid and subsequently gave birth to the babies via cesarean section.

Her husband, former basketball player Blackie Chen made an appearance in the video to joke that his mother’s words were too good to be true but was glad that there was no feud between his mother and wife in the household. He also made a special appearance at the press conference as an old man, after going through a makeover, to support his wife.

Christine and Blackie dated for ten years and got married in 2011.
