Fan Bingbing scorned by netizens for attire on The Amazing Race China 4
Chinese actress didn’t want to get a tan from filming outdoors
Chinese model-actress Fan Bingbing made headlines when she joined the cast of the latest season of the Chinese reality show The Amazing Race China 4. However, after the show premiered two weeks ago, her appearance in the series attracted negative reviews from fans.
Due to the show’s format, contestants are required to race against each other and have to travel and complete various tasks, which normally take place outdoors, to obtain clues to help them progress.
Cautious of getting a tan from the outdoor activities, the 35-year-old, who is famous for her fair and clear skin in showbiz, appeared in the show thoroughly covered from head to toe in order to avoid the sun, leaving only her forehead visible. She also wore a long sleeved shirt together with a hat, a face mask and did not even reveal her eyes behind her sunglasses.
During a task of sawing wood, Bingbing also exaggerated about how she was about to be “burnt to death” due to the heat. Her behaviour was a complete polar opposite to the other female members, who were smiling and carrying out their tasks happily, even whilst under the sun.
Her actions have been met with much criticism from the public, who accused her of not being dedicated and giving it her all, with some saying that she should not have even joined in the first place if she was not going to enjoy it fully.
Many also called Bingbing unprofessional and that she was disrespecting what the show was truly about. They were displeased that she signed up for the show despite knowing how she would react to such circumstances.
However, some defended her and said that being under the sun for too long might cause spots on her fair skin which would be undesired for her modelling career.
Other notable female cast members in season four of the show include Taiwanese actresses Alyssa Chia and Evonne Tsieh as well as Olympic athlete Wu Minxia.
