First sighting of Fan Bingbing in 135 days
Fan Bingbing is alive and well.Unlike conspiracy theories reported about the actress’ disappearance and suspicions over her recent activity on Weibo, the Chinese actress is no longer held captive as speculated by netizens. On Monday, she was seen and photographed in the flesh at Beijing Capital International Airport, flanked by bodyguards. Wearing a cap, black shades and platform loafers, she was holding a phone in one hand and had the other tucked in her coat’s pocket. Her long black coat gave off an illusion of a leaner frame and she reportedly looked thinner than when she was last seen in public, 135 days ago. This is Bingbing’s first public sighting since she was reported to be

held under house arrest by Chinese authorities who were investigating her tax evasion case. Her last public activity was when she visited a Children’s hospital in July.

The 37-year-old was fined RMB 884 million (approximately S$177 million) for evading taxes on October 3. The hefty fine barely left a dent in her finances, according to Chinese media, as she owns several properties and had reportedly sold off 41 properties to pay the fine.

Her showbiz future remains uncertain as brands discontinued their relationship with her after she went missing and was investigated for tax evasion. Bingbing’s name was also stripped off Unbreakable Spirit, a Chinese action flick co-starring American actor Bruce Willis and Korean actor Song Seung-heon.
