Fan Bingbing suffers $8.9 million investment loss

Fan Bingbing has reportedly suffered an estimated RMB 44.57 million (S$8.9 million) loss after share prices of a production company that she has heavily invested in fell sharply.

Zhejiang Talent Television and Film Co, which produced hit drama The Empress of China, had a share price of RMB 28.47 (S$5.74) at the start of the year. Since then, prices have fallen by almost a quarter, with the current share prices being RMB 21.56 (S$4.35) per share. This is a fall of 24.35 percent.

Bingbing is said to be the seventh largest stockholder in the company, holding 6,449,600 shares in the firm. Given the loss of RMB 6.91 (S$1.39) per share, this translates to an estimated S$8.9 million loss that the actress has suffered after share prices plummeted.

Zhejiang Talent Television and Film Co’s share price is said to have risen sharply after the release of The Empress of China in 2014. The drama, which stars Bingbing, did well both in China and overseas. However, the company, which sees the bulk of its income from producing dramas, has not been able to keep up the momentum since the release of the hit series.

This, however, is not expected to put a major dent in Bingbing’s finances as she is said to have investments in multiple areas, and is still very much active as an actress.
