G.E.M. to take legal action against management agency

Last night (March 7), Hong Kong singer G.E.M. posted a statement on her social media accounts, announcing her decision to part ways with her management agency of 10 years, Hummingbird Music.

The singer made her debut at the age of 16 with Hummingbird Music, and has embarked on a number of concert tours, with venues sold out worldwide.

In 2017, she announced her second Queen of Hearts world tour, while simultaneously appearing on reality performance shows like The Rap of China and The Next Top Bang. She was also recording songs for her upcoming album in the same time period.

At that time, fans had worried that the 27-year-old’s workload was too heavy for her to bear. It was said that as her management agency continued to pile on projects for her, G.E.M. often quarrelled with the CEO, as well as her producer, Lupo Groinig.

In her statement yesterday, G.E.M. announced that she will be taking legal action against Hummingbird Music, as she was being “treated unfairly". She also expressed her wish to terminate her contract with the agency with immediate effect.

G.E.M revealed that the agency had “breached their contract terms severely” and “signed endorsement contracts" without her approval. The singer shared that the breaking point for her came when she watched the Oscar-winning film, Green Book, whilst on a flight. She was inspired by one scene in particular where the main character, who had been mistreated, finally stands up for himself and refuses to perform.

As the second part of her concert tour is still ongoing, G.E.M. reassured fans that she will continue to carry out her duty, and perform during the dates that have been announced.
