Huang Xiaoming and the cast of ‘Chinese Restaurant 3’ accused of embarrassing China
They were tasked with translating a menu into English, but the end product was riddled with mistakes
Learning a new language can be a tricky affair, as Chinese reality show, Chinese Restaurant 3 proved once again. A picture of a menu thought up by the show's celebrity cast has been making the rounds online recently due to the sheer number of errors on the menu.
On the first episode of the show, cast members worked on the menu that they would be using this season. The task of translating the menu from Chinese to English was given to Chinese singer-actor Wang Junkai (also known as Karry Wang). However, as he fell asleep halfway through, the job was passed to Chinese actress Yang Zi.
Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming also looked through the menu as he is the head of the restaurant for this season.
Some of the errors on the menu include, “A la Cate Meun” instead of À la carte menu, “Coke Cola” instead of Coca Cola, “Sort Drink” instead of soft drink, “Pear Milk Tea” instead of pearl milk tea and “Italy Beer” instead of Italian beer.
Netizens were quick to criticise the cast for their poor command of English, questioning their education and accusing them of embarrassing China.
