According to Taiwan media reports, AMBI-CAFÉ, the café opened by Taiwanese host Jacky Wu’s eldest daughter Sandy Wu, was recently reported to the authorities for violating laws set by the Ministry of Land and Resources.

During a filming for Taiwanese variety show Super Followers on February 4, the 55-year-old host responded angrily to the news, calling the whole incident absurd.

“It must have been the neighbours who reported us,” Jacky expressed, claiming that it is “rather impossible for officials to travel all the way to Luzhou district just to report the café”.

He added that Sandy’s purpose for setting up the café in the small district of Luzhou was not financial, but stemmed from a wish to revitalise the city. “When I opened ‘Devil Island Restaurant’ at the same place, I didn’t earn much too. All these efforts, aren’t they all for this place?”

The host expressed, “It must be crazy to label this area as a residential area. What are we to do if the laws are unable to keep with the changing times?”

Reflecting on his own experience with running a business, the host shared, “My shop was not opened for financial gains. I wanted to provide my employees with jobs and salaries that they can bring home to their families. However, the employees sometimes choose to work overtime and all these are paid. In the end everyone decided to give up on the job, and this makes it very tough for bosses like myself.”

Jacky however, maintains full confidence in Sandy’s café. “Safety is still the most important, and we have two months to make changes. We can definitely make it work,” the host said.

He also asked for fellow merchants to get along well, as everyone are just running their own businesses.
