Reality singing programme Mask Singer has done incredibly well in Korea, and even spawned a Chinese edition which is currently in its third season. The show pits contestants against each other in knockout tournaments which ultimately sees the top contestant of the episode vying for the top spot with the reigning king or queen.

The catch is that all singers have to wear a mask to conceal their identities, and their voices are usually put through a voice changer when they are interviewed on the programme.

However, it seems that a hiccup happened during a recent episode, where one of the contestants, Jam Hsiao, got upset at the host Wu Tsing Fong. When Jam took to the stage with his mask on, he was said to have purposely changed the way he spoke in order to prevent the guests present at the recording from guessing his identity.

Tsing Fong declared, “Can someone give me an umbrella? I’m afraid that it’s going to rain. Even though it isn’t raining now, but it’ll pour once he shows up. Be careful, everyone!” Jam is well-known in the industry for being a “rain-bringer” as it never fails to pour when he takes the stage.

After hearing this, Jam took off his mask and shared, “I won’t wear this any longer. I wanted to immerse myself [in the contest], but Tsing Fong was laughing at me from the side.”

He later continued, “I was very confident that nobody would be able to recognise me. However, my identity ended up being revealed by Tsing Fong. I’m very hurt.”

This issue caused such a big ruckus online that Tsing Fong had to clarify that he was merely doing what the production team instructed him to do, and that he had no part in causing Jam’s discomfort during the show.
