Jam Hsiao’s crazed fan attempted suicide

The Taiwanese singer’s stalker-fan Yuki Kageyama’s depression was said to have worsened after his lawsuits against her

The saga surrounding Taiwanese pop star Jam Hsiao and his Japanese ‘super-fan’ Yuki Kageyama has made headlines once again. Following legal action against Yuki for harassment, her father, Kageyama Jiro, has recently stepped out and revealed that she had attempted suicide more than ten days ago and was currently recovering in a mental institution in Taipei.

Jam and his manager, Summer Lin, had previously filed a report against Yuki in 2015 for slander, after she shared photos of them on social media accompanied by the captions such as “Wicked woman” and “scum of Taiwan”.

They took further action against Yuki for harassment, after she personally delivered homemade soup to Jam’s house after midnight as well as took a photo with the latter’s parked motorcycle.

Despite denying these claims, Yuki was ordered by the court on July 11 this year to pay NT$500,000 (approximately S$23,000) in damages to Jam and NT$300,000 (approximately S$13,500) to Summer. She was also required to issue a public apology in four major Taiwanese newspapers.

Yuki followed through with her punishment and issued her apology on the front page of the newspapers two days ago but it was her father who bought the page over to announce her mental state, which had worsened due to the dispute with Jam over the past five years.

He said that the lawsuits had made her more depressed and expressed the pain he felt while watching her rest. He said that “while Yuki did not get the outcome of the verdict she wanted, she still respects the Taiwan law but feels very disappointed.”

Summer has responded to the situation, saying she had no words for Kageyama’s actions.

“Giving a public apology was a decision by the court and not us. If her own father says she is unwell, we will treat her like a patient and can only hope that she gets better soon, so as to lead her own life.”
