Janet Hsieh shares little-known facts about newborns

Taiwanese-American host Janet Hsieh has been like a post-pregnancy book to new mothers thanks to her constant raw updates about her life with her 1-month-old son, Egan on Facebook, the latest of which was posted two days ago. She recently returned home from the postpartum centre and shared about her experiences living there, as well as provided some interesting facts about newborns.

As she grew up in Texas, America, the idea of postpartum centres was initially unfamiliar to her and she even admitted that she was “cynical of them at first because I was all set to handle a baby by ourselves armed with books, family and friends’ advice, and the internet”.

However, she later realised that it was not as easy as she thought and was grateful that she had nurses to answer her questions and to make sure there were no problems at all times. She said that the extra help gave her more time to rest and recover, which made the transition into “mommy” and “daddy” much easier.

“Now that we have had our crash course in Baby 101 at Dayeh, we are back at home, armed with lots more knowledge and more importantly, more confidence and assurance that we don’t suck too much at this whole parenting thing”, Janet joked.

She went on to share lesser-known facts about newborns such as them having acne, red spots, and constantly blowing spit bubbles. She also added that aside from having terrible vision at first, babies are only able to see in black and white. She also informed new mothers that they should still brush their babies’ teeth even though they do not have teeth yet.

The 37-year-old mother then gave fans a laugh after she wrote that “babies cannot drive”, and joked that it was one of her husband, Singapore-based actor George Young’s comments.

Janet and George tied the knot in 2015 in an intimate wedding ceremony in Antarctica after going public with their relationship in 2014. She announced her pregnancy on April Fools’ Day this year and subsequently gave birth to Egan on Oct 11. The new mother has not stopped showing her love for Egan, who recently turned six weeks old, as she excitedly said that she still has 984 weeks to spend with him until he turns 18 and becomes an ‘adult’.
