Taiwanese singer Jay Chou has been representing Fubon Charity Organisation as the official celebrity spokesperson since 2009, and turned up at the organisation’s 30th anniversary press conference two days ago (May 16).Since his appointment, the 39-year-old singer was said to have sponsored the education of 300 children every year, and extended his help to 500 children this year, helping a total of 3200 children by contributing more than NT$23 million (approximately S$1.03 million).During the event, visually-impaired children from Taichung Hui-ming School for the Blind performed his 2012 song, ‘Snail’, and gifted the singer with handmade ceramic pieces and hand grown potted plants to express their gratitude, leaving the singer touched.Besides providing financial support, Jay is reported to have participated in the organisation’s annual charity basketball camp in spite of busy

On a related note, Jay released his new song ‘If You Don’t Love Me, It’s Fine’ on May 14, and received criticism for its “old-fashioned” song lyrics. Many of his fans requested renowned lyricist Vincent Fang to rewrite the song lyrics and left comments on his Weibo, causing him to approach the singer for help.

“Vincent asked me to help him because he didn’t know how to respond to the requests,” Jay shared, “I told him he didn’t need to respond. Several of my songs, like ‘Mine Mine’ and ‘Failure at love’, have similarly light-hearted lyrics. The song is meant to be different, and it’s the way I write my love songs.”
