Jay Chou: ‘Who is Jolin Tsai?’

Taiwanese multi-hyphenate Jay Chou, who’s currently in the middle of his The Invincible Part 2 concert tour, was recently blind-sided by a comment made by a fan during his concert on March 21.

The 39-year-old has a segment in the concert where lucky fans that are chosen will get to request a song of their fancy. However, the female fan requested for “The song you wrote for [Taiwanese songstress and Jay’s ex-girlfriend] Jolin Tsai, but I can’t remember the song’s name now”, during Wednesday’s concert, which Jay’s wife, Taiwanese model-actress Hannah Quinlivan attended.

However, Jay’s witty comment immediately had the whole venue bursting out in laughter. “Who’s Jolin Tsai?”, he asked jokingly, pretending not to understand the question.

The multi-hyphenate then proceeded to sing the very song the fan had asked for, ‘Can’t Speak Clearly’, inviting the audience to sing along with him as well.

After the concert, netizens left comments poking fun at Jay, laughing that his “sense of self-preservation is powerful”, and that he nearly had to “kneel on [his] keyboard when he came home that night”.

The very next night, however, another fan requested for Jolin Tsai’s ‘Rewind’ which was composed by Jay as well, incurring the ire of netizens. But, Jay still acceded to the fan’s request to perform the song, though he did remark, “Did you come to attend someone else’s concert?”.

Hannah also took to her Instagram to upload a post showing her support for Jay, after the latter “lost his voice” at the start of the concert, writing, “You’ve worked hard, daddy, captivating the entire venue while nursing a cold. Thank you everyone for singing along with him. You win”.

Jay tied the knot with Hannah in January 2015. The couple have two children together, 2-year-old Hathaway and 7-month-old Romeo.
