At the press conference of new Chinese drama My Best Ex-Boyfriend, Taiwanese actor Jerry Yan revealed that growing up in a single-parent family and his poor background resulted in his inferiority complex. The 38-year-old also admitted that he is not good at expressing his love for other people (including his mother) which hindered the progress of his romance with Taiwanese supermodel Lin Chi-ling back then.

“I couldn’t even say ‘I miss you’ to my girlfriend,” he let on.

A man who chooses actions over words, Jerry is willing to ride the motorbike in the rain just to buy his lover’s favourite food. However, he later realised that showing concern and giving the other party happiness are most important in a relationship.

While speaking to reporters, Jerry said that he would inject parts of his real life experience when he is acting. There was a scene in My Best Ex-Boyfriend, where his role was unable to stay by his girlfriend’s side when she got into an accident, which caused the actor to break down in tears on set.

When asked if he was reminded of the episode where Chi-ling fell off a horse in 2005, Jerry simply smiled without replying. To shun media’s attention at the time, Jerry reportedly got a friend to visit the model-actress on his behalf, instead of going to the hospital in person. “Even though we have broken up, there were many good memories. We are not the type to burn bridges,” he emphasised.

And if he were to find “the right person” now, he would go public with the relationship.
