Hong Kong actor-singer Jordan Chan recently denied claims that he agreed to star in the upcoming season of hit Chinese reality show Where Are We Going, Dad? because of its attractive salary, and revealed the real reasons behind his decision.
The show features five fathers and their children travelling to rural places and has already finished filming for its fifth season. Jordan was revealed to be one of the cast members who would be participating alongside his 4-year-old son, Jasper. This came as a surprise to many as he was a very protective parent in the past and had never even fully revealed his son’s face in public before.
However, he chose to star in the series as he wanted to spend more time with Jasper. He admitted that he does not spend much time with his son due to his long hours at work, so he hopes that being on the show would allow both father and son to bond and learn more about each other.
Jordan also cited the other reason as him wanting his son to experience the tougher side of life and learn to be more appreciative and grateful for what he already has.
“The show really changed his perspective because now, he would be thankful for the bathroom at home and learn not to take anything for granted," said the 50-year-old.
Jordan further denied claims that he only accepted to participate due to the high salary and said that he had actually received the invitation two years ago but declined the offer. However, he changed his mind after he saw “other reality stars doing well” and also because he felt that “this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” and wanted to “experience this unforgettable memory with Jasper”.
He also admitted that he had no confidence in himself at first and his wife, actress Cherrie Ying, had to mentally prepare him on what to expect. To his relief, he realised that he could pick up the necessary skills naturally once they got there.
The first episode of the fifth season of Where Are We Going, Dad? will air today on Sept 14.
