Controversial Malaysian-Chinese rapper Namewee faces yet another backlash from netizens after directing a music video (MV) that features fellow Malaysian and internet celebrity Michiyo Ho clad scantily in a nurse’s uniform with a plunging neckline, complete with sheer white stockings and stilettos.

Michiyo is seen dancing with suggestive moves in the video while being surrounded by eight women wearing nothing but face masks and lingerie. The dance moves include Michiyo drawing attention to her chest while singing to the lyrics.

“Some are huge, but want [it] bigger, which is quite frightening”, reads one such line in the song which refers to people who seek breast augmentation.

With lyrics such as “squeeze on it when you’re free” and “press gently on both sides, make sure there’s no tumour in it”, the song was originally part of Malaysia’s breast cancer awareness campaign and was intended to remind the public of the importance of conducting regular checks on themselves.

However, the MV for ‘MIMI’ has received countless negative responses from netizens criticising it for being “as good as pornography” and for “portraying women as objects”.

After the controversy erupted, Namewee criticised netizens for being ignorant in a Facebook post. “Doesn’t your mum have breasts?” he wrote, “Only those with a dirty mind will view it as dirty”.

This is the second time Namewee is caught in the middle of a controversy, following his remand for allegedly insulting Islam in his band, Nine-One-One’s music video for song ‘Oh My God’. The original intent of the music video was to promote religious harmony.
