Taiwanese singer Jam Hsiao turned 30 in March, and did so in style by splurging a total of S$10.77 million on himself. In April, it was confirmed that he bought a NT$200 million (approximately S$9.17 million) mansion in Nangang District, Taipei, but he remained coy on what the second half of his present was, only sharing that it was something that he “will use”.

Last week, his other present to himself was finally revealed – a NT$35 million (S$1.6 million) Rolls Royce, which was specially customised for him.

He was spotted driving his new set of wheels to the Mandarin Oriental hotel on June 22, where he waited with his manager, Summer, for Hong Kong film mogul Charles Heung and his wife, Tiffany Chen. After waiting for half an hour, the couple emerged from the hotel, where they exchanged warm hugs before getting into the car and heading towards the Yangmingshan area for a gathering.

In December 2014, Jet Li, along with Charles and Tiffany, held a fundraising dinner in Hong Kong and invited Jam to attend. It happened to be Charles’ birthday on the night of the dinner and he declared that he would donate NT$1 million (S$200,000) if Jam sang at the dinner. Ultimately, he donated five times the amount – a cool NT$5 million (S$1 million) after the singer took the stage.

It was also revealed that Tiffany sent a private jet to ferry Jam from Taiwan to Hong Kong for the dinner and to Beijing afterwards as the singer was having trouble purchasing air tickets.

Jam is said to have been recognised as Tiffany’s god-son, especially since she feels that the singer and her husband look similar, and she often declares, “He’s my son.”

When approached by the media to ask about the relationship between Jam, Charles and Tiffany, Summer responded, “They got to know each other through charitable activities. This time, the elders came to Taiwan, which is why Jam personally picked them up and had dinner with them.”
