SHINee celebrates 10th anniversary

K-pop boyband SHINee marked their 10th anniversary on May 25, their first anniversary without member Jonghyun. To celebrate the group’s anniversary, the group will be releasing their sixth album ‘The Story of Light’, in three parts.

The second part of ‘The Story of Light’, featuring title track ‘I Want You’, was released yesterday (June 11), with the members meeting the media at a press conference to mark its release.

Leader Onew, when asked about his thoughts on the group celebrating their 10th anniversary, replied, “I never thought of, never imagined [it], it’s been 10 years since our debut]. It only feels ‘real’ when people start congratulating us.”

Member Minho then laughingly said, “In the past, it used to be that we’ll be the ones congratulating our seniors, but now that we’re the ones receiving the words of congratulations, it’s starting to slowly sink in. But, we still have a long road to walk [ahead of us], [with the goal of] getting closer with not only with our fans, but the public as well.”

The group’s youngest member, 24-year-old Taemin, shared that he became an idol trainee at the age of 12. He gave a sigh and joked that SHINee has taken up “half of my life”.

Member Key also shared that ‘The Story of Light’ will be split into three parts, with three different title songs that they will promote one after the other, in order to let everyone know that “SHINee is still here”.

When asked if they had any hopes or wishes for the next 10 years of their career, Key said, “When it comes to that, I hope that we will still be able to communicate with the younger generation, so that we’d still be able to receive love from them.”

Meanwhile, Minho hoped to be able to “learn together, and work hard on their individual careers at the same time”, while Taemin wished to get a new hobby and become an expert in it.

Last but not least, Onew shared that he had one simple wish.

“[I hope that] everyone will be happy. It doesn't matter if it’s a big or small happiness, as long as they’re happy.”
