Hong Kong actor-director Steven Ma's new movie Till We Meet Again has led many to worry about the thespian’s mental state. The film's protagonist, who was created to resemble Steven, is afflicted with depression, panic disorder and schizophrenia.

The speculation seemed to have reached the 48-year-old, who took to his Facebook to clarify the rumours.

On December 9, he wrote on his page, “I want to make a small clarification to spare everyone from worrying. I was depressed from 1999 when my mother passed away, but I’ve been free from it since 2007! However, I still get the panic attacks that began in 1999. Not to worry, because I’m alright.”

“If it gets too serious, I can just take medicine and I’ll be fine. As for schizophrenia, this is something that I do not suffer from. I just hope that the public would be able to empathise with and show concern to those who have different mental states. Please don’t worry about me!”

His post was met with a positive response by the public, with many netizens praising him for being so optimistic despite having to deal with panic attacks for 20 years. In addition, they also lauded his bravery by standing out and admitting that he has these disorders despite the social stigma that is still prevalent.

“You’re stronger than you think. I’m sure your mother is proud of you!” one netizen wrote, while another shared, “I’ve never been a fan of movies, but I think I’ll have to go to the cinema this weekend to watch your movie to show my support for you.”
