Veteran Hong Kong actor Eric Tsang denies drink driving reports
While acknowledging that he was involved in a car accident, the 65-year-old maintained that he was not intoxicated at the time
Veteran Hong Kong actor Eric Tsang was reported to have been involved in a traffic accident on Christmas Day, in which initial reports claimed that he had to undergo a breathalyser test after his car collided with a seven-seater vehicle.
A makeup artist only known by her surname, Ms. Lee, was a passenger in Eric’s car whereas the other vehicle was reportedly carrying Hong Kong police director of crime and security Li Chi Hang and his family. The accident, which happened in Hokkaido, occurred after Eric lost control of his vehicle.
Those in the other car were injured, with the senior police officer flown by helicopter to a hospital for surgery after injuring his cervical vertebrae. Eric and Ms. Lee were reported to have not suffered any injuries.
In his first statement to the media on December 27, Eric expressed that he did not drink on the day of the accident and was not asked to undergo a breathalyser test, contrary to initial reports.
The 65-year-old continued that he has given his statement to the police and has been assured that he is free to leave Japan. As such, he will be returning to Taiwan after his holiday ends to complete filming for his upcoming film.
Latest updates have reported that Li Chi Hang’s condition has improved after surgery and the Hong Kong police force has since established contact with the local authorities to find out more about the circumstances surrounding the accident.
