Vivian Hsu powers through post-pregnancy rehabilitation

New mummy Vivian Hsu chronicled her difficult pregnancy journey through her social media accounts and gave birth to her first child, Dalton Lee, last Thursday – good news she also shared in an emotional post on her Facebook.

Following the birth, the 40-year-old’s 143 days of being confined to her bed have also ended. She was advised by doctors to remain in bed for that extended period in order to keep her baby healthy. Due to this, she was reported to have been afflicted with muscle atrophy (a decrease in muscle mass) and has thus started rehabilitation efforts to get her back to her normal life.

Vivian shared the good news of her finally leaving the confines of her bed to use the restroom a day after her birth, although she had to be supported by hospital staff as she was too weak to walk on her own.

She described, “Even though my thighs rubbed against each other and my forehead was beaded with sweat (and) I moved at turtle speed, I finally walked the furthest distance (I’ve travelled in a while), 40 steps. After all, I can do it!”

Vivian has emphasised her desire to get back to the pink of health and declared in a touching open letter to her son, “Mummy knows that I must get well at the soonest in order to have the strength to look after you. Even though every step is nail-bitingly tough, I magically find the determination, strength and will to block out pain when I think of it being one step closer to you at a time.”
