Wu Chun wins Brunei Model of Youth award

Wu Chun received the Model of Youth award from the Brunei Sultan, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, at 10th National Youth Day celebration on Tuesday. The award recognised his contributions to charity and to promoting Brunei as a tourist destination.

On accepting his award, Wu Chun encouraged youth to “believe in yourself, don’t give up, stay focused on your goals, because that’s the key to success.”

The 35-year-old singer–actor achieved celebrity status through being part of Taiwanese boyband Fahrenheit. The Brunei-born Wu Chun got people to notice his native country and worked hard to encourage tourism to the country.

He has been appointed ambassador to the Royal Brunei Airlines and Brunei Tourism, and operates gyms, restaurants, fast-food outlets to attract fans to visit Brunei. He is also involved in social causes, organising a women’s charity marathon this year that saw 1,500 take part and raising funds for local charities including the Brunei Children’s Cancer Foundation.

In an interview with media after the award presentation, Wu Chun said, “Youth are the future of the country, don’t be afraid of failure, listen to your elders and learn from those with more life experience, don’t ever give up your dreams.”

He also said that he is driven by support from his family and fans, and doesn’t want to disappoint them, least of all his late mother, who he hopes would be proud of his achievements.
