Local MediaCorp artiste Julie Tan and Taiwanese idol Aaron Yan, as well as Taiwanese model-actors Allen Chen and Chris Lee graced the opening of the new Dazzling Café in Singapore last week.

The Taiwanese café hotspot for celebrities and socialites is famous for its delectable specialty, honey toast, which Julie and Aaron got to learn how to prepare through a short demonstration.

After the two artistes took the stage to share about their love for desserts, they picked up the skill of slicing thick toast directly from the café’s head chef from Taiwan.

When they were done, Aaron secretly stole a bite of the famed toast when the staff was busy putting the knife away, flashing a smile in satisfaction.

In fact, Aaron told Toggle that it was his first time having dessert again after six months.

The Mandopop singer said, “I love desserts, but they’re just luxury food for artistes, as we need to maintain our good physique.”

Aaron’s discipline in this area is unwavering even in the face of temptation and he attributes it to his strong willpower: “When I’m filming, I can spend half a year just eating steamed chicken. Most people would not be able to stand it.”

However, he does not over-restrain himself, as he gives himself one cheat day per week to enjoy his favourite fried chicken, pearl milk tea, fast food, pasta and pizza – all high-calorie food.

But the singer doesn’t only have a passion for eating, he too will occasionally experiment with cooking celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s dishes.

Aaron revealed that he is “obsessed” with the Michelin-starred chef and has been collecting his recipes.

“I think he’s very handsome when he’s scolding people and especially when he’s cooking dishes.”

“When was in Las Vegas, I paid a special visit to Gordon’s restaurant to have his famous Beef Wellington because I could get an autographed picture of him when I ordered that!” added Aaron with a laugh, before telling us about a fried cod fish dish that he’d prepared and was particularly proud of.

“As long as you get the seasoning right and have good control of the fire, it will be fine. I recall adding broccoli and green pepper as garnish to my dish. It was rather simple.”

The 29-year-old also shared that if he were to create a new dish out of his favourite fruit, strawberries, he would make a very unexpected creation: strawberry duck rice!

“I love to eat Singapore’s duck rice, and because salty and sweet tastes often go well together, I think that adding duck skin over strawberry slices will certainly take it to the next level,” Aaron elaborated.

Although Aaron suggested a rather adventurous recipe, he admitted that he is not a very daring eater, “I don’t dare to eat worms, even if you gave me loads and loads of money (laughs)!”
