Second-generation celebrity kids who share their famous parents’ artistic talents

All hail the powers of a strong gene pool: We’ve seen the rise of second generation celebrity offspring like Eleanor Lee and Leah Dou of late. Both teenagers are making their marks in the entertainment industry and have created a name for themselves in the acting and singing departments, respectively. Naysayers may say they are riding on the coattails of their parents’ success, but we think otherwise. Read on to learn more about the future stars of tomorrow, who have inherited their dad and mums’ artistic talents in more than one way.

Actors Yifong and Peter may be divorced, but it does not erase the fact that they are co-parents to a very talented kiddo called Eleanor, who has been in the news of late for her upcoming acting debut in China.

Following in her parents’ footsteps… Eleanor, 16, made headlines after starring in an Apple commercial during Chinese New Year last year and is currently in the midst of filming her first acting project, a period fantasy drama series, Tribes and Empire, in China and Japan. Apart from acting, the pretty face also sings, plays a handful of instruments (guitar, drums and piano, at last count) and is artistically-inclined too.

PS: Did you know that Peter is making an acting comeback in year-end TV series, Heroes? Read more here.

Faye’s one of the most acclaimed Mandopop singers while Dou Wei’s a Chinese musician and part of one of China’s pioneer rock bands, Black Panther. Although Faye and Dou Wei are divorced, they are parents to Leah, who has clearly inherited their musical talents.

Following in her parents’ foosteps… Leah, 19, is now a musician in her own right and recently made her singing debut with an English album titled ‘Stone Café’. She’s a songwriter, too, and is said to share a similar music style to that of her mother.

Special mention: Li Yan, Faye’s other daughter from her second marriage to director Li Yapeng, is said to be an up-and-coming mini celebrity, too—especially after the little one made waves on the internet with her “beauty tutorial” videos. The next social media influencer, perhaps?

David and Victoria Beckham’s superior genes are not to be undermined – by their powers combined, they have produced three sons and one daughter together and all four kids are shaping up to be very talented individuals, specialising in different fields.

Following in their parents’ footsteps… Brooklyn, their firstborn son, is into photography and has set up a separate social media account to display his works; Romeo, their second son, is shaping up to be a high-end model after making his foray, at the tender age of 11, modelling for Burberry’s summer campaign; Cruz, their youngest son, has surprised many with his singing vocals when he performed a cover of ‘Cups’ recently; and last but not least, Harper-Seven, has a penchant for styling her own clothes and we are not surprised if she ends up a designer like her mama.

Ex-actor Melvin (best remembered for his role in A Kindred Spirit) married one of Hong Kong’s screen sirens, Angie, in 1984 and they welcomed their first child, Wesley, three years later. Although both Melvin and Angie are no longer actively acting today, the same can’t be said for their 29-year-old son.

Following in his parents’ footsteps… Wesley, a budding actor, made headlines when he joined the third instalment of Jack Neo’s hit series, Ah Boys to Men 3: Frogmen in 2014. Although it’s still too early to tell how far he’d go, the young chap has been making appearances on Chinese variety shows and has even performed at the annual countdown shows. His journey to stardom has only just begun.

The Smiths: Will, Jada Pinkett, Jaden and Willow Smith

When dad’s a movie star and mum’s a singer-actress, it’s only normal for one to expect the kids of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith to live up to their parents’ legacies.

Following in their parents’ footsteps… Jaden, 17, has dabbled in a few acting projects, with the most successful to date being The Karate Kid (although we really think he’s most famous for his furrowed brows more than anything else), on the other hand, Willow, 15, branched into singing and has one hit single (‘Whip My Hair’) to her name.

Adam and his late ex-wife Lydia are household figures in the Hong Kong entertainment industry. Both of them are respected actors with the latter, especially, being loved for her hosting capabilities and witty zingers. Their daughter, Joyce, may not have kicked off her showbiz career on a successful note, but things are definitely looking up for her today.

Following in her parents’ footsteps… Joyce had her first brush with fame in 2006 at 19, when she released her first ever music video, ‘Kao Zi Ji’. Since then, she has starred in several movies and dramas and even made the news for her financial and fleshier figure woes. The 29-year-old experienced a career slump a few years ago but picked herself up again, after embracing her curves, and earned rave reviews for her latest song and self-directed music video, ‘Goddess’.

Before Bruce Jenner became Caitlyn Marie Jenner, he had three ex-wives and fathered six kids. Both Caitlyn and Kris Jenner gained fame for living their lives out on reality TV series, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, and are parents to two budding starlets, Kendall and Kylie Jenner.

Following in their parents’ footsteps… Kendall and Kylie made it to Times Magazine’s list of The 25 Most Influential Teens in 2014 and have carved out careers in the modelling and cosmetics industries, respectively. Kendall models for high-end brands such as Vera Wang, Diane Von Fürstenberg, Chanel and Miu Miu, just to name a few, while Kylie is one of the most influential celebs on social media and has her own cosmetics line to boot.

During their heydays, Deborah lit up the silver screen with her beauty while Patrick captured hearts with his leading man status in the Hong Kong entertainment industry. The divorced couple may not have given Nicholas and Jennifer a happy childhood or complete family life, but at least they passed on their good looks and acting chops to their two kids.

Following in their parents’ footsteps… Jennifer has dabbled in several movie projects, although she is not as active in showbiz as her older brother, Nicholas, who is more than just a successful businessman and showbiz’s bonafide bad boy. Nicholas wears multiple hats as an award-winning actor and singer, but that’s not all – he even helms his own cooking variety show which sees him cooking and chatting up a storm with his celebrity guests.

Asia’s most recognisable action star Jackie married Joan (or Lin Fengjiao), one of the hottest young things and a Golden Horse Best Actress winner at the peak of her career, and the couple welcomed a son, Jaycee, in the same year. Although Jaycee has gained more infamy (for his use and possession of drugs) than fame for his entertainment projects, we’re sure he has inherited some—if not, a little—of his parents’ stellar acting genes.

Following in his parents’ footsteps… it was only natural for Jaycee to pursue a career in showbiz, first as a singer then an actor. Over the years, he has gained more fame for acting than singing and is said to be writing a movie script currently. He has yet to make a name for himself with a titular project, but maybe the boy just needs time to prove his capabilities. After all, we’re not born geniuses.

Eric and Pao Ma (Mei Hua)’s marriage may have ended on a bitter note, but the famed comedian and actor and former actress are parents to Bowie, a versatile and eloquent host in Taiwan’s entertainment industry.

Following in her parents’ footsteps… Bowie has clearly inherited her dad’s compere skills and her mum’s acting chops. Apart from acting in plenty of TV projects, the trilingual (English, Mandarin and Japanese) and articulate artiste has hosted her fair share of award ceremonies, including our very own Star Awards ceremony in 2012.
