It's a boy for Janet and George!

At 41 weeks pregnant and after trying all sorts of methods to induce labour naturally, Janet Hsieh and George Young finally welcomed the newest member—a baby boy—to their family, according to an announcement made today (Oct 11).

According to Taiwanese media, Janet was in labour for 28 hours and finally gave birth at 2.37am this morning; their baby boy, whose umbilical cord was cut by George, weighs a healthy 3.65kg.

The couple, who chose not to find out their baby’s gender throughout Janet’s pregnancy, shared the good news on their respective Facebook pages in the wee hours of Wednesday.

“It’s a boy!” said Janet, while George wrote: “I have a son. Janet Hsieh is Wonder Woman. I’ll figure the rest later.”

As the baby was supposed to  arrive on Oct 2, Janet was given an injection to help induce labour. Doctors and nurses praised Janet for her mental strength and for opting to go with a natural birth, despite her baby's "big head." The couple's newborn is said to have long limbs and has inherited his parents' tall genes.

The 37-year-old Taiwanese host has been actively sharing updates about her pregnancy journey on social media to reach out to and encourage fellow mums. Even in her final weeks of pregnancy, she was still working – and even organised a flash mob (because “one of the ways to naturally induce is to dance,” she says) with fellow pregnant mummies at Taipei Main Station in September.

Janet also did a series of photoshoots, including an underwater maternity shoot, to celebrate “the beauty that is pregnancy and the miracle of life.”

In previous media interviews, Janet and her Singapore-based actor husband shared that they have yet to decide where they would raise their child. The couple have been living in different countries due to their work and could only meet up sporadically.

Janet and George tied the knot in 2015 in an intimate wedding ceremony in Antarctica after going public with their relationship in 2014. They announced their pregnancy on April’s Fools Day this year.

In an Instagram post, Janet shared the reason behind her decision to do a nude maternity shoot: "Those are the beautiful moments and feelings I wanted to capture with this series of nude maternity photos. Just the beauty and miracle that is the body when it is carrying a baby inside."

In a series of posts, sharing photos from her maternity shoot, Janet mused about her fears and hopes of motherhood.

"When I first found out I was pregnant, I was excited, nervous, scared, ecstatic, confused, worried and so many other emotions. And like a lot of first time mums, I had a lot of questions. Questions about what I could or could not do. What was allowed and what wasn’t. What could I eat and what was off limits. What could I do and what could I NOT do. Was my life going to change completely and would I lose my freedoms before the baby even came out?!" she wrote.

Dancing with the bump

At one of her last few events, before she was due to go on a break and prepare for childbirth, Janet took things up a notch and boogied with her gigantic belly. Damn, she’s so agile!

Bump gets its fair share of vitamin D too

Kudos to the mum-to-bee for roughin’ it out in the summer heat with the bump! Due to pregnancy hormones, the body temperature of a pregnant woman tends to be higher than usual and here’s how Janet tried to stave off the heat: blow a portable fan at the belly OR hit the beach. Sounds like good idea to us.

27 weeks pregnant and livin’ it up in Mongolia

Not quite the ‘baby moon’ most mothers would opt for, especially when you’re required to rough it out in the great outback in a yurt. But that’s what makes Janet special.

Even when she was into her third trimester, the pregnant continued to take on work assignments. From attending commercial events to traveling to Mongolia for a show, there’s no stopping Janet.

We definitely watched this video a few times because we couldn’t believe how active Janet and George’s little one was. It can be seen punching vigorously and most definitely takes after his/her parents. We have no doubts about that. The same can’t be said about facial features though (see picture on the right) – it’s still too early to tell!

The first of many pregnancy memes to come: when Janet likened her bump to that of a watermelon. The resemblance (by that we mean the size and shape) is there – we see it.

The big reveal!

Janet updated her social media platforms with a photo of herself holding a sign that read, “One of us is pregnant”, and was flanked by George and American child actor Hudson Yang. Given that her announcement was made on April 1, her manager clarified that it was not an April Fools’ joke.
