Rainie Yang, Christopher Lee miss out on 52nd Golden Bell Award wins

The 52nd Golden Bell Awards were held last weekend at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, and was hosted by Mickey Huang and Selina Jen.

One of the categories that Singaporeans were most interested in was the Best Leading Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film category, in which local actor Christopher Lee was nominated in for his role in The Long Goodbye. His fellow contenders were Fu Meng-po (The Last Verse), Wu Kang-jen (We Are One), Alex Ko (Far and Away – Dark Beauty) and Lan Wei-hua (The Cage). The honour eventually went to Fu Meng-po.

In an interview after the winner was announced, Christopher shared, “Things have gone very smoothly before and after I was nominated, and so I don’t feel regretful missing out on the award. Everyone is a winner!” He also praised the teamwork between him and the Taiwanese production staff, saying that they have “grown closer and closer” ever since working together.

Likewise, Rainie Yang missed out on the Best Leading Actress in a Television Series award, but she shared that she didn’t feel that she would go home with the prize even before the winner was announced.

“I had a feeling that Ke jie (Ke Shu-qin) would win, so I told the staff that I wouldn’t win this year,” she chuckled. Reporters then asked about how her boyfriend Li Ronghao consoled her about missing out on the award, to which she responded, “I didn’t use my phone at all during the ceremony. I received a lot of well-wishes from others but he was at work, so it was I who told him about the result.”
