Singer-actress Ella Chen was recognised for her turn as a betel nut seller in The Missing Piece at the 11th Osaka Asian Film Festival over the weekend.
The 34-year-old was awarded the Yakushi Pearl Award for her role in the Jiang Feng Hong-directed movie, which was screened during the week-long festival in Japan.
However, eagle-eyed netizens spotted a mistake on the festival’s website: the S.H.E member’s English name was written as Miriam Yeung, who is a Hong Kong singer-actress, instead of Ella Chen. The error was quickly rectified by the film festival organisers after they were notified about it, but not before screenshots of their mistake started circulating online.
Ella’s husband, Malaysian businessman Alvin Lai, congratulated his wife on her win but made no mention of the naming error. “Pudding’s mother, we are so proud and very excited!” he wrote.
The 11th Osaka Asian Film Festival was held in Osaka, Japan from March 4 to March 13.
