Chen Qi, a Chinese media insider, recently revealed that Wang Sicong has been engaged as a groomsman for the wedding of Chinese entertainer Huang Xiaoming and Hong Kong model Angelababy. The wedding will take place on October 8 at Shanghai Exhibition Centre, but few other details are known.
Sicong posted on Weibo: “For Huang Xiaoming’s wedding on October 8, groomsmen include Wang Sicong — and that’s all I can say!” Sicong is the only son of Wang Jianlin, chairman of commercial real estate conglomerate Dalian Wanda Group and ranked 29th on the Forbes 2015 billionaires index.
Netizens took jabs at Sicong’s image as a forever-groomsman: “Wang Sicong a professional groomsman for 20 years!” “Another +1 for groomsman experience,” “Lin Gengxin, please hurry up and marry Sicong; don’t let him be a groomsman again!” (The reference was to a Weibo hacking incident last year in which Chinese actor Lin Gengxin’s account was infiltrated and used to post messages calling Sicong his husband.)
Chinese actress Ni Ni, known for playing the female lead role in Zhang Yimou’s 2011 film The Flowers of War, also revealed during an interview that she would be Angelababy’s bridesmaid.
Netizens commented that Xiaoming’s strong influence was evident from his ability to invite media and social heavyweights to be part of the wedding, though some were worried the controversy-ridden groomsman might steal the show at the wedding.
Chinese media reports they have requested a statement on the wedding of Xiaoming and Angelababy, whose staff said there will be an official announcement made soon.
