Hong Kong singer G.E.M. Tang and her rumoured boyfriend, Chinese singer Han Chenyu, who appeared separately at the 23rd Oriental Billboard Awards held in Shanghai, China, on Monday, have set the record straight on their dating rumours.
The two, who fuelled speculation after they were photographed linking arms in what was believed to be a date, did not meet each other before appearing on the red carpet and had separate backstage interviews.
During Chenyu’s interview with the media, the singer denied that they were in a relationship, confirming that the pair were platonic friends.
When asked whether the pair would collaborate musically, the 25-year-old answered without hesitation, “We do have plans to collaborate. When we were photographed by the paparazzi the previous time, we were actually discussing the collaboration.”
G.E.M., who won the Most Popular Hong Kong Artiste and Most Popular Asian Artiste awards that night, quietly agreed with Chenyu during her own interview.
She mentioned the interactions between her and Chenyu but made no mention of their dating rumours during her interview, saying, “He’s agreeable [to being interviewed], so ask him.”
