Taiwanese singer Jay Chou is seeking NT$5.5 million (approximately S$230,000) in damages from a wedding banquet hotel in Beijing’s Tongzhou district that used his wedding photo as advertising.

The hotel had hung up a copy of his wedding photo on the building’s exterior. Jay has also demanded the hotel take down the photo and issue a public apology.

Jay’s January wedding to 21-year-old Hannah Quinlivan took place in England’s Selby Abbey. The pair also toured the Continent to take wedding photos at locations including Prague, Paris and Neuschwanstein in Germany, Taiwan media reports.

But in late March, the singer discovered a hotel in Beijing was using his photos without permission.

JVR Music, Jay’s record and artiste management company, has confirmed this incident. The Tongzhou district courthouse is processing the case, and any damages won will be donated to charity.
