Hong Kong singer and actress Joey Yung, 35, has bagged her sixth consecutive Most Popular Female Artist win at the Jade Solid Gold Best Ten Music Awards Presentation on Sunday night, breaking the record held by the late singer Anita Mui.
Anita won the same award five times in a row, from 1985 to 1989, a result that Joey matched from 2003 to 2007.
“Starting in 2004, people might have thought this award was a breeze to win,” said Joey said. “But the truth is that my team and I put in our greatest effort, and we were aided by good feng shui too.” The singer added she wouldn’t get complacent despite winning so many times.
The Jade Solid Gold Best Ten Music Awards Presentation’s convention is that artistes who don’t attend the ceremony won’t win prizes, but the organisers made an exception for Joey, who only turned up towards the end of the show.
The hosts explained that Joey was occupied with work engagements, and they even joked that the singer might be too busy with her job to get married.
Joey also won Best Duet with Hacken Lee for the song ‘It's A Small World.’ Other winners of the night included Hins Cheung for Most Popular Male Artist, and Jinny Ng took home the Gold Song Gold Award for ‘The Secret of Tears.’
