On May 29, Taiwan-based singer-actress Lara Liang (ex-member of Nan Quan Mama) received the shocking news of her mother Liang Qiongwen’s sudden death during a medical check-up.
According to Taiwanese media, Lara’s mother, who was in her sixties, was accompanied by her domestic helper to Taipei Veterans General Hospital that day as she had been experiencing tightness in the chest area lately.
As part of the exercise electrocardiogram (a test that is used to evaluate the electrical activity of the heart's response to stress or exercise), Madam Liang ran on the treadmill for a short period of time before taking a break. Complaining of discomfort, she collapsed within a minute and passed away shortly after.
Lara and her elder sister, who rushed to the hospital upon receiving the news, were unable to accept their mother’s unforeseen passing and reported the incident to the public prosecutor's office on the same night. The family has also agreed to a post-mortem to find out the cause of Madam Liang’s death.
Lara wrote on her Facebook yesterday: “We have only discussed this among our family members, but I don’t know how it appeared on the news. In a difficult time like this, I do not wish to complicate things. More importantly, I do not want my mum’s case to be sensationalised. Only when the forensic report is out will we have the most complete information, so I’d not make any judgement until then. Thanks everyone for the concern.”
