APink’s Namjoo denies special treatment for university admission

APink’s Namjoo was revealed to have been accepted into Sungkyunkwan University and will be majoring in acting and the arts from this year.

Netizens were quick to accuse the 19-year-old of receiving special treatment from the school, which is considered as one of the best universities in the country.  In response, a representative from her agency, Cube Entertainment, declared that she was accepted into Sungkyunkwan by her own merit and that no preferential treatment was involved.

The representative added that Namjoo has been diligently preparing for university admissions for the past year and took the entrance examinations under the same conditions as other students. In addition, they added that the professors were unaware of her status of an APink member.

South Korea is notorious for its intense competition for university admissions, with students devoting their entire lives to get into what is widely regarded as the top three universities: Yonsei University, Korea University and Seoul National University.

Some of Sungkyunkwan’s notable alumni include Joo Won, Moon Geun Young and Song Joong Ki.

Meanwhile, APink recently concluded their first solo concert, Pink Paradise, in Seoul on January 30 and 31. The group is slated to bring their tour to Singapore on March 22.
