The annual Idol Star Athletics Championships saw over 200 of Kimchiland’s hottest stars swap their perfectly styled on-stage personas for their gym attire on the first two days in February. Prior to the event, questions about the safety of the show were raised due to injuries suffered in the past.

In last year’s contest, INFINITE’s Woohyun and Sungyeol sustained injuries while playing futsal (indoor soccer) while EXO’s Tao was injured during the high jump segment. In 2012, SISTAR’s Bora fell during the 70m dash preliminaries and hit her head. Medical personnel had to rush to her aid as she was unable to stand up on her own.

This year was no different, with EXO’s Tao and GOT7’s Jackson reported to have sustained ankle injuries while competing. Tao was revealed to have gotten hurt while playing basketball, and is said to have received hospital treatment before resting at home.

He updated his personal Instagram later in the day, assuring fans, “Thanks to all the EXO-L that came today (because) I got more energy to work harder! I’m okay (and) don’t worry because I’m fine (…) I feel proud of finishing the competition even though I’m not sure why I always get hurt (…) It’s unavoidable to get hurt in life (so) rest well everybody!”

Jackson sustained his injury when he tripped while passing the baton during a relay. A company representative assured fans that his injury is not serious and that he will be receiving a complete checkup at the hospital today (Feb 3) after receiving emergency treatment yesterday.

The annual sports event typically airs during the Lunar New Year holidays, but MBC representatives have maintained that a broadcast date for this year’s edition has yet to be determined.
