SM Entertainment Introduces New Boy Group NCT for Localization of Hallyu
SM Entertainment will be introducing a new concept boy group to the world.
The group, NCT (NEO Culture Technology), will have no limits on the number of members, nor limits in nationality, and they will take the stage all around the globe.
SM Entertainment′s Lee Soo Man held a presentation show, titled SMTOWN: New Culture Technology, 2016 at SMTOWN Coex Artium in Samsung-dong, Seoul on January 27 at 3:00 p.m. and announced SM′s five projects for 2016 along with the introduction of the new boy group, NCT.NCT is an international boy group designed by SM Entertainment with a 3-step system. The first step is to advance Korean stars into the international market. The second step is to collaborate with local companies to bring international stars into the domestic K-Pop market, and the third step is to collaborate with local companies to enable Korean groups to debut in the local market. The members will be specifically selected for each region.
Under the brand NCT, each team will debut in order based on each city around the world, and various collaboration units will arise between these teams.
Lee Soo Man said, "Beginning from the first unit in spring, a team centered in Seoul and Japan will be revealed within the first-half of this year. In the second-half of this year, teams centered in the Chinese region will be revealed, starting from Beijing, Shanghai and other major cities."
He added, "We will truly localize Hallyu through this activity. SM Entertainment will actualize its long-held dream of a 3-step Hallyu project this year. We wish we can look back on this moment and smile in 20 years in 2036."
