The septet was in town for their first fan meeting with big promises to return

Now, we have to admit: we weren’t familiar with Korean boy group GOT7 in the least. When we found out they were gracing our little red dot with their first-ever official event, we might have panicked a little, with our internal dialogue going like this: OMG, seven new faces to memorise before they arrive? We’re going to get grilled alive if we mix them up or leave one out. Wait a minute, are there seven members in the first place?”

You get the idea. We were still a little nervous after poring over countless members’ profile pages online, crossing our fingers and hoping that at the very least, place cards with their names would grace the tables in front of them during the press conference.

Alas – there were no tables at all. Nevertheless, the anxiety gradually melted away as each member’s distinctive personality (and to be honest, different hair colours helped as well) shone through, and by the end of the night, we were somehow identifying them like an IGOT7 (their official fan club name).

While this was their first fan meeting in Singapore, the boys’ repeated promises to return with a bigger, better show and the fans’ overwhelming support for their idols tell us that we can expect to see them back on our sunny shores real soon.

Click on to check out our three reasons why you should anticipate GOT7 when they return to Singapore.

Their pledge to put on a full concert

With only one full album under their collective belts, it’s no wonder that they are yet to be able to put on a full concert for their fans. The fan meet, however, was a blessing in disguise as GOT7 and their fans had their first meeting in a cozy environment, where they had the chance to get up close and personal with each other.

Hand holding, jacket sharing and photo bombing were just some of the highlights of last night’s show, with the members freely dispensing plenty of fan service throughout the night.

While GOT7 repeatedly thanked their fans for the overwhelming support, they mentioned both during the press conference and fan meet that they will return with a full concert the next time – and we’re sure fans will not object.

The rising stars are here to stay

The multinational group – the members are from Korea, America, Thailand and Hong Kong – has a leg up over other K-Pop groups because of their diversity – the ability to communicate with more fans.

While music is the language of love, realistically, idols do need more than just music to communicate with their fans. With the group speaking Korean, Chinese, English, Thai and more, they don’t need translators to get their messages across to their fans; more importantly, they can easily understand what the fans are saying to them.

This key advantage is just one of the many reasons we feel that GOT7 is here to stay – crash courses in the Korean language just to be able to tell your idols that one little thing won’t be necessary with this group.

Girls, Girls, Girls

When we say girls, we mean IGOT7. It’s been a long time since our eyes went wide at the level of screaming we’ve heard at an event. Us hapless media were stunned – to say the least – once the lights dimmed at 7.01pm (brownie points to GOT7 for being one of the most timely idols as well).

The fans’ cheering somehow managed to sustain and even grow in volume as the night went by, with fan chants and sing-a-longs also managing to be distinctively heard even above the speakers.

During the press conference, the boys quipped that they find fans from warmer countries extremely passionate – something that their fans most definitely lived up to last night.

One prime example would be when the boys went backstage and the music videos for ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ and ‘A’ played on the big screens. The cheers didn’t subside and fans even sang along to the tunes – a phenomenon that surprised us as these little video breaks that usually occur during concerts also act as chances for the fans to take a rest. Instead, they took it as an opportunity to rev themselves up even more. With this level of support, we’re sure that they will be able to return to our sunny shores really soon. Thumbs up, Singapore IGOT7.

Now, excuse us while we try to get the ringing out of our ears.
