Toggle: Welcome back to Singapore! What does the group remember most vividly about your last visit here and where do you hope to visit during your free time in Singapore?

CROSS GENE: When we visited the Merlion, we were all super excited about seeing the real thing and took tons of photos! Other than that, we tried chili crab for the first time and it was so good we overate! The view from Marina Bay Sands was also breathtaking, and all in all, our impression of Singapore was that it’s really beautiful.

Toggle: This year marks CROSS GENE’s fourth year since debut. What do the members think has changed the most, and what has stayed the same?

CROSS GENE: The member that’s changed the most is Takuya. He used to be quiet but he speaks out a lot more now. He’s also become a little evil (laughs). The member that’s changed the least is probably Casper because he’s still as muscular as ever (laughs).

Toggle: Earlier this year, you released ‘Noona, You’. Do any of the members have a preference for older women?

CROSS GENE: Older women exude a matured aura. I want to learn a lot from them and be supported by them. On the other hand, younger women have a cute aura, which makes you want to protect them. Our fans have both. The support of our fans brings to mind the charm of an older woman, while we also think that they are really cute whenever we see their smiles as they cheer us on.

Toggle: CROSS GENE have never been involved in dating rumours since your debut. Is there a reason for this, or is there a dating ban on the group?

CROSS GENE: It goes without saying, but our fans are most important to us at the moment.

Toggle: This year, CROSS GENE released GAME in Korea and will be releasing YING YANG in Japan. Which songs from either album does each member think represents him the most and why?

Takuya: For the Japanese album, it’s the song ‘Tegami (Letter)’. I think a lot of Japanese guys can’t really say the words “I love you” very easily. I also like how there’s a certain elegance in writing a letter to convey what you cannot say aloud.  In the Korean album, I like ‘MR. SECRET’.

Casper: In the Japanese album, I like the song ‘Tegami (Letter)’. It’s such a great song! I love hip-hop, but I actually also like ballads just as much. Everyone has their own ups and downs in life. I think this song showcases a different side of me from usual! In the Korean album, I can relate to ‘I’ll be fine’.

Shin: In the Japanese album, I like ‘NO NO NO – K. remix –‘. In the Korean album, I can have fun with fans through the song, ‘Play with Me’. As I place an importance in interacting and being as one with the fans, this song is perfect.

Toggle: This year, CROSS GENE released GAME in Korea and will be releasing YING YANG in Japan. Which songs from either album does each member think represents him the most and why?

Seyoung: For me, it’s the song ‘Tegami (Letter)’ in the Japanese album, as the emotions in it can be expressed easily. In the Korean album, ‘MR.SECRET’ is a sexy song and I like it.

Sangmin: I really like the song ‘sHi-tai!’ from the Japanese album. I love both the pronunciation and the meaning of the word. In the Korean album, it would be ‘MR. SECRET’ because it’s really manly and among all the songs of CROSS GENE, this song is the sexiest of them all.

Yongseok: The song ‘YING YANG’ as I feel that I have two sides to me.

Toggle: How has actively promoting in two countries affected your schedule and what do you feel are the pros and cons of promoting in more than one location?

CROSS GENE: What’s great about being active in two countries is that fans can transcend national borders and connect to one another. We’re a group comprising Korean, Chinese and Japanese members. If little by little our fans can grow closer just like we have, there’ll be a ripple effect and the circle will grow bigger and bigger.

That’s an extremely good thing. We’re mainly active in Korea and Japan at the moment, but Casper’s from China, so we want to do a lot more in China too. The Taiwanese movie that Casper had a lead role in is also going to be released soon, so all the other members are really looking forward to it! There’s actually a Korean music programme that takes into account votes from the online site Tudou in China as well, and we have been extremely fortunate to be ranked No. 1 on that show numerous times.

It’s really all thanks to our fans. We’re very touched to know that we have fans who support us so earnestly, and we want to convey our gratitude to them as soon as possible!

As for the downside, there really isn’t any.

Toggle: Your fanmeeting is titled “Parallel World” – if there was a parallel world from ours, what would you imagine your life to be like and why?

Seyoung: I’d be someone with super powers. It would be interesting to live in a world where we can use magic.

Toggle: It’s been some time since all the members have been on a reality show together (CROSS BATTLE, 2012). If you have the chance to film another one, what would the concept be and what activities would you like to participate in?

CROSS GENE: In CROSS BATTLE, the 6 of us were divided into 2 teams and had to compete with each other. If we had the chance to create a new variety show, we’d like to battle with countries other than Japan, Korea and China. How many challenges will we be able to clear in a country that doesn’t speak our mother tongue? If possible, we’d like to do it in a country where we have a lot of fans!

Toggle: Takuya received a lot of attention from his spot on variety show Non-Summit. Do the members ever watch him on the show and did you ever feel envious about his increasing popularity?

CROSS GENE: Of course we do watch him! It was surprising to see how quickly Takuya’s Korean improved. In the past, he had a really cute way of pronouncing words but he’s improved so much it wouldn’t be an overstatement to say he sounds like a native! We’re really glad it will help with his activities in Korea!

Toggle: What’s something that each member has discovered about himself ever since debuting with CROSS GENE?

Sangmin: I didn’t realise how quickly I learnt dance steps until the dance teacher told me that I was the fastest at memorising them.

Takuya: Until my debut with CROSS GENE, I always thought that I was a nice and kind person, but it seems like that’s not the case...

Seyoung: My endless potential. It was my first time dancing and singing up-tempo songs, which made me, realize I could actually do it. In other words, I found out that I had the capacity to do a lot of things.

Shin: I learnt that no man is an island. We live our lives helping one another.

Casper: I discovered my cute side? I’d always maintained a strong image, but when I debuted in Korea I could not speak a single word of Korean. Fans found this really cute, which was something new for me!

Yongseok: For me, it would also be finding out that I could dance. Since I was a child, I’d only sung ballads so this was something new.
