Korean celebrities who would make awesome teachers

In Singapore, we celebrate Teachers’ Day on Sep 4 to express appreciation for teachers and to honour their contributions in education.

Now, imagine if your school is filled with K-pop idols as teachers: Which subjects would they teach and what kind of teachers are they likely to be? One thing is for sure. You will never miss school again!

In this gallery, we list the Hallyu stars who would make awesome teachers.

Teacher candidate: GOT7’s Jackson

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Jackson attended the American International School since young and is able to speak English, Chinese, Cantonese and French. After spending four years in Korea, the 21-year-old not only picked up the Korean language, but he has also proven himself to be a new-generation variety-dol.

Given his fun-loving personality, lessons with Jackson will be anything but boring!

Teacher candidate: EXID’s Hani

If you thought that Hani only has good looks to boot, this might surprise you: she reportedly has an IQ (intelligence quotient) of 145 – Korea’s national average is 106.

Besides being bilingual in Korean and Chinese, the EXID member managed to score 900 out of 990 in the TOEIC (Test of English for International Communications), despite studying for only two months prior to the test. Hani also impressed many when she showed off her linguistic abilities on variety show I’m Going to School.

Hani will certainly get the class to pay attention with her presence.

Teacher candidate: Super Junior’s Kyuhyun

In high school, Kyuhyun’s father promised to buy him a motorcycle if he managed to get first in the whole school – and he did.

Known to be a “math genius”, Kyuhyun once participated in the Math Olympiad, which only the top students can take part in, and received the prestigious President award.

Even for the not-so-mathematically inclined, we wouldn’t complain about solving some mind-boggling questions with a teacher like this.

Teacher candidate: ZE:A’s Im Siwan

Siwan was revealed to have scored 450 points out of 500 in his entrance examination for admission into Busan University last year. This meant that he belonged to the top 10% in the national ranking of exam passers.

The 26-year-old majored in mechanical engineering, before he decided to discontinue his studies in order to pursue his singer dreams. Siwan is also said to be able to solve a Rubik’s cube in less than 40 seconds.

We would gladly attend remedial lessons held by this teacher to build some, err, chemistry.

Teacher candidate: TVXQ’s Changmin

Changmin’s high tenor register isn’t the only thing that is above average – he has an IQ of 155, is fluent in Japanese and English, and is often named as one of the most intelligent idols in Korea.

After completing his degrees in Kyunghee University (Major in Postmodern Music) and Konkuk University (Major in Film and Arts), the singer went on to pursue a Dual Degree (Masters and PhD) at Inha University.

This subject may not be the most interesting to some, but at least Changmin’s voice will make even the most yawn-inducing content feel like music to your ears.

Teacher candidate: EPIK HIGH’s Tablo

Graduated from Stanford University in the United States, Tablo reportedly has a remarkable IQ of 160. The EPIK HIGH leader has got a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing under his belt, which probably explains why his lyrics are so good.

Now that Tablo has become the CEO of a newly established YG sub-label called HIGHGRND, he might just uncover some music or writing talent in you, or better still, sign you into the company.

Teacher candidate: f(x)’s Amber

Even if Amber may not have the credentials for this role, the Taiwanese-American singer has enough globe-trotting experience and knowledge to share. With the amount of friends that she has, we can expect to hear plenty of interesting stories as well. Her affable personality also suggests that she would easily hit it off with her students!

Teacher candidate: Girl’s Day’s Yura

Well known for her excellent drawing skills, Yura leaves people (including her ex-We Got Married virtual husband Hong Jonghyun) in awe whenever she showcases her talent.

In an episode of variety programme Happy Together, the Girl’s Day member gifted one of the hosts, Yoo Jaesuk, with a hand-drawn portrait which looked extremely realistic. Yura also brought her drawing of Frozen’s Elsa that attracted many compliments from the MCs, guests and staff.

No more drawing of stickmen with this pretty art teacher!

Teacher candidate: BIGBANG’s G-Dragon

G-Dragon is the musician whom most artistes have expressed their wish to work with and whom even fellow celebrities idolise (GOT7’s BamBam and BTS’ Jungkook are the most high-profile examples). His music talents are recognised internationally, and in terms of song-writing, producing and performing, GD is in a league of his own.

The singer is known for his seriousness in the studios, so students would have to control themselves no matter how mesmerised they are. But if you really want to learn music, you’ve got to be trained by the cream of the crop, yes?

Teacher candidate: 2PM’s Taecyeon

After making a guest appearance on Roommate and cooking for all the people in the house, Taecyeon partnered Song Jihyo for a cooking competition on Running Man and he has been impressing everyone with his performance in reality cooking show Three Meals a Day.

Using only ingredients found around their accommodation (in a deserted area), Taecyeon and actor Lee Seo Jin have to whip up three meals for themselves every day. The dishes attempted by the 2PM member include kimchi fried rice, dumpling soup, red-bean glutinous rice and spicy fish soup – all prepared without MSG or other non-organic ingredients.

Most students will vie to do a class demonstration with this teacher.

Teacher candidate: SHINee’s Minho

Minho’s name naturally comes to mind when you think of athletic-dols. Apart from being an active participant in the annual sports TV programme Idol Star Athletics Championships, the SHINee member also enjoys playing a game of football with fellow avid soccer fans such as BEAST’s Doojoon, during his free time.

Whatcha waiting for? Let’s get the ball rolling!
