Amy Poehler has paid tribute to her "dear, young friend" Harris Wittels.
The 'Parks and Recreation' actress has been left devastated after the show's co-executive producer was found dead in his apartment yesterday (19.02.15) from an apparent drugs overdose aged just 30.
She said: "Today, I lost a friend. I lost a dear, young friend in my life who was struggling with addiction."
The 43-year-old actress was honoured with the Unity Award for her work with Worldwide Orphans at Variety's unite4humanity event and admitted the tragic news meant she was in no mood for fun or celebration.
She said: "I'm sharing it with you because life and death live so close together, and we walk that fine line everyday.
"When things happen in our lives, we turn to the people that we love...and we lean on people, in a hope that we will ease our pain.
"So, I don't really feel like telling any jokes.
"I'm kind of sad, and it's really great to be here tonight and listen to all of you, and listen to the great work that you do and be reminded why we live in this bizarre planet called 'Hollywood'. It's very strange."
A Los Angeles Police Detective representative told The Hollywood Reporter that Harris' assistant found his body and the site reports that police responded to a 911 call about a "possible overdose" yesterday afternoon.
Despite this, Harris - who had been to rehab twice and had openly spoken about his battles with drug addiction - claimed he was clean and sober while performing one of his stand-up comedy gigs at Los Angeles' comedy theatre The Meltdown on Wednesday night (18.02.15).The 'Parks and Recreation' series finale airs on Tuesday (24.02.15).
