Dax Shepard has credited his friend Jason Bateman for pushing him to marry his wife Kristen Bell.

The 40-year-old actor believes it's down to his 'Couples Retreat' co-star that he and the blonde beauty, 34 - who didn't want to wed until same sex marriage was legal in California - eventually tied the knot in 2013 after being engaged for three years.

He explained to PEOPLE.com: "Jason was first to go, 'Stop f***ing around and marry Kristen."

The loved-up couple have daughters Lincoln, two, and Delta, 10 weeks, together and Dax has insisted Jason, 46, was the one who encouraged him to start a family back in March 2013.

He added while turning to face his pal: "You immediately transitioned into 'Get her pregnant.

"I would say you were at the very forefront of cracking the whip on that. And you were dead right."

Meanwhile, the hunky star may be busy with his demanding career but he's always got time to get his children ready for bed.

He said: "I'm the in-house dance partner. So an hour a night we dance. Some people have story time before bed; we have a full hour dance party. We whip her [Lincoln] into a frenzy and then pop her in the tub and then off to bed."
