Ed Sheeran can't go outside in Los Angeles because it's too hot.

The flame-haired singer finds the Californian heat unbearable at times so has to try to find some shade "as quickly as possible" on the rare occasions he does venture out, but admitted he once requested someone walk around holding an umbrella above his head to give him instant relief from the bright sunlight.

He said: "I can't go outside a lot, just 'cos it's very sunny. I do run out, then try and find shade as quickly as possible.

"Diddy had that dude that just walked around on a beach, with an umbrella. I did that on a photoshoot last year.

"It was a Teen Vogue photoshoot and it was so hot, it was like dessert weather, and they asked if I wanted a guy with an umbrella and I was like 'Yeah'! So we did, we had a dude with an umbrella!"

Ed is in LA ahead of the Grammy Awards on Sunday (08.02.15), where he will perform with Electric Light Orchestra, and while he is up for Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Song for Visual Media, he expects to return home empty-handed because he believes Sam Smith will cleanup at the ceremony.

Speaking on the Capital Breakfast radio show with Dave Berry & Lisa Snowdon, live in LA with Three, he added: "Just being nominated for a Grammy ... all the artists say this I know, but honestly I'm not too fussed about winning, just because I probably won't! I never win anything!

"I won the year of the BRITs because I was a male and not Adele, she won everything else! And I got the VMA because Pharrell didn't turn up. I did, they said, 'He's not here, do you want it?'

"I think Sam will win a large amount of them, I don't think he's gonna walk away with nothing."
