Gwyneth Paltrow's friends are on "midlife crisis alert".

The 'Iron Man' star is reportedly being more risky with her fashion choices in the hope that she can "outdo" her former partner Chris Martin's new girlfriend, Jennifer Lawrence.

A source told heat magazine: "She's also taking more risks with her fashion to try and look younger. She took four hours getting ready for the Golden Globes.

"Her friends are on midlife crisis alert. They worry she'll try to outdo Jennifer, and no one in Hollywood is more competitive than her."

The 42-year-old actress is also believed to be squeezing in intense two-and-a-half-hour workouts as well as going on a detox diet.

A source shared: "Gwyneth prides herself on having a better body now than when she was 22, but seeing that Chris is dating someone SO young has made her really want to make sure she's in top shape.

"It's not even for him. It's for her, but she needs to feel like she is better looking than anyone else he could ever date. She's relentless about her figure."

Meanwhile, a diet isn't the only detox the actress is reportedly going on, with Chris and Gwyneth reportedly having made plans before Christmas to go on a "spiritual and physical detox" in 2015.

A source said at the time: "They're headed to the We Care Spa in Palm Springs. Ever since Chris split with Jennifer Lawrence they've improved their relationship immensely and are the best of friends now.

"Chris has already decided he's cutting back on his work commitments and spending time away from Coldplay, so he can be with their kids more. And he's thinking perhaps a divorce could be bad news and it seems Gwyneth agrees so they're doing a spiritual and physical detox at this hardcore New Age retreat after Christmas."
