A man has put a wooden dummy in his car in order to get to work on time.

James Campbell, 56, turned to the dummy so he could use the carpool lane, which can only be used if the driver has at least one other passenger.

However, the American's plan unraveled when a police officer pulled him over and looked inside the vehicle.

Campbell told NBC: "He said, 'Passenger, can I see some ID?' And I said, 'Officer, I don't think so.

"He's got a sister down in the basement and on special occasions, I bring her out and she wears a tutu'."
