Marilyn Manson talks to his cat as if she's a person and often asks her if animals believe in God.

The 46-year-old rocker has regular conversations with his Devon Rex pet Lily White - who he is thought to have won custody of following his divorce from burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese - and her intelligent responses lead him to question whether or not felines are in fact "smarter" than humans.

He said: "The question I ask my cat is, 'Do animals believe in God?' I talk to her like a person, and sometimes she miaows back.

"Maybe she does understand me. I don't know. I don't think they do - maybe they're smarter than us."

While Marilyn doesn't know if his pet pussy believes in God, he thinks people are "arrogant" if they claim to know who the lord is and insists he knows more about the Bible than "most Christians" despite opposing religion.

He said: "Greed is the root of most problems and, in a sense, religion is greed. Someone saying, 'I know what God is' is arrogant. I'm guilty of the same mistakes, as my resistance to religion is based on knowing more about the Bible than most Christians, which made me angry with them being so ignorant.

"But now I make music, which satisfies my anger."

The 'Personal Jesus' hitmaker revealed he was taught how to shoot a sniper by his dad when he was just seven years old but the American-born star didn't feel "patriotic" enough to following in his father's footsteps into the army.

He added to Shortlist magazine: "My father was in the war, he taught me how to shoot a sniper when I was seven. I had no desire to join the army because I didn't feel patriotic. I don't understand why people start wars. If I see a problem, I just fix it."
