After a night of ‘Happy’ and ‘Lucky’ tunes with Pharrell Williams on Friday, F1 concertgoers were treated to medley of Maroon 5’s best ballads in a one-and-a-half-hours concert at the Padang stage yesterday.

With the band currently on their Maroon V Tour in Asia, having toured in Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines – with two shows in Thailand next week, fans got to enjoy a condensed edition of the concert as the band made a pit stop in Singapore for the Grand Prix weekend.

Kicking off their set with a slew of hits like ‘Animals’, ‘One More Night’ and ‘Harder to Breathe’, lead singer Adam Levine, bass guitarist Mickey Madden, lead guitarist James Valentine, drummer Matt Flynn and keyboardists Jesse Carmichael and PJ Morton got the crowd moving on their feet with a seamless transition of their groovy tunes.

Thanks to the heat and humidity, the band was drenched in perspiration by the fourth song and shrill cries resounded in the arena when the frontman took off his Hawaii-themed shirt, which was layered over a white singlet to reveal his toned and tattooed arms.

“How do you guys feel tonight?” asked Adam, addressing the crowd for the first time since their set began, “It’s our second time [performing at the Singapore Grand Prix] and it’s a lot of fun. It’s a beautiful place but it’s hot as shit!”

As he took to the extended stage, Adam engaged the crowd in a massive sing-along to the chorus of ‘This Love’ before launching into a full-scale performance of their iconic hit. The rah-rah atmosphere was further bolstered when Adam did a sing-off with James and matched the latter’s guitar chords note for note.

But Adam was not the only one who got to display his singing chops last night. After serenading the crowd with ‘Sunday Morning’, the band members joined their lead singer at the front of the stage (“never mind if you go off-pitch boys,” he joked) and delighted fans with a short and sweet acapella performance of ‘Payphone’.

With time ticking away (and the last trains due to depart soon), the band closed their 13-song concert set with a mix of their best hit songs, during the encore performance.

The atmosphere was revved up a notch (deafening screams included, too) when Adam finally peeled off his white singlet at the start of ‘Moves Like Jagger’ and strummed away on his hot pink guitar with abs and pecs on full display. Saving the best for the last, the band jammed to groovy party hit ‘Sugar’ and ended the night on a sweet, sweet note.
