Hans Lee Hao Nan & Mandy Ng

Hans Lee Hao Nan

Played by: Joshua Tan (@joshuatwe13)
Likes: Attention, working out, flexing
Dislikes: The fact that he doesn’t have any real friends

We’ve all heard this story before. A fat little boy is taunted all his childhood until puberty hits – along with newfound determination to become one of the cool kids. Cue the birth of self-obsessed gym rat Hans, who loves every bit of positive attention rained on him.

Mandy Ng

Played by: Sonia Chew (@soniachew/@987sonia)
Likes: Korean dramas, Hans (but that’s a secret!)
Dislikes: Too much attention

Hans and Mandy were each other’s’ first loves but called things off after drifting apart. This geeky chemistry teacher, however, still cares a lot for the guy she can’t seem to forget. Their mutual love for Korean dramas drives their friendship with the pair catching every episode together.

Darren Ang & Suzanne Goh

Darren Ang

Played by: Aden Tan (@adentyz)
Likes: Succeeding in charming girls
Dislikes: Failing in charming girls

Darren is friends with Hans. Darren likes Mandy. Hans and Mandy are each other’s exes. Guys, do you see the problem? #brocode What this I.T. guy lacks in brawn, he more than makes up for it with his brains and good looks. Will he manage to charm Mandy to stay by his side – and what will he tell Hans?

Suzanne Goh

Played by: Audrey Goh (@sparrowonweed)
Likes: Money, men
Dislikes: Not getting her way

Suzanne is the typical insurance agent you love to hate – except hotter. She knows how to make men sign on the dotted line, which translates to ka-ching adding up in her bank account. This time, however, she’s got a little hurdle in her way that comes in the form of a bespectacled science teacher. Getting rid of her should be a piece of cake, right?

Johnny Star & Candy Soh

Johnny Star

Played by: Darryl Yong (@darryl_yong)
Likes: Attention, muscles, more attention
Dislikes: People who don’t worship him

Johnny is like Hans – but upgraded. More muscles, more likes and more girls swooning over him – and he will stop at nothing to get all the attention he can garner, conquering the social media world in the meantime.

Candy Soh

Played by: Eunice Annabel (@euniceannabel)
Likes: Plotting, winning at everything
Dislikes: Getting her cover blown

Straight out of a makeup ad, Candy breezed into Mandy’s school and got all the guys starry-eyed over her. What they don’t know is that she isn’t quite the science teacher everyone thinks she is – but she wants is a permanent position at the school, going to all lengths to reach her goal.

LOVE: The PR Team

Played by: Oon Shu An, Jaspers Lai, Maxi Lim, Shelia Tan

While not part of the main cast, we absolutely love the PR Team for all the laughs we’ve had on-set because of them. They’re just one of the many reasons why you should give A Selfie’s Tale a chance – they (very sassily, we might add) whip Hans into shape, all while being absolutely fabulous.

OOH: Sonia’s acting debut

Speaking of reasons to stay tuned to this series, our resident 987FM deejay Sonia Chew has another feather to add to her hat with this project – her official acting debut. We’ve heard her voice on the waves, packed our bags and had barrels of laughs with her on Travel SSBD and more.

Her talent shines through despite having to juggle her radio schedule alongside the packed filming timings, with her fellow cast members praising her for her natural flair for the acting. Thumbs up, Sonigiri (Sonia + Onigiri headpiece = Sonigiri).

YUM: Bite-sized webisodes

These days, it’s all about getting things done ASAP because there are so many things to do and so many cafes to hop to. Each five-minute webisode ensures that you won’t spend ages wrapped up in this series – just make sure you don’t miss your stop while chuckling to yourself over the characters’ hare-brained schemes.

LOL: Joshua Tan being a himbo

We were introduced to Joshua Tan back in 2012 as Ken Chow in Ah Boys to Men. His character goes through the ups-and-downs of army life and emerged as – you guessed it – a man. In A Selfie’s Tale, however, be prepared to ditch all your impressions of Ken: Hans is a pretty much a himbo. And Joshua does such a good job at this role that we’re wondering if he’s secretly Hans-like.
