Celebrities who look younger than they really are

Back in the day, we used to wish we would grow up sooner and look like an adult. Once we hit our 20s, however, many of us have been piling on anti-ageing products hoping to freeze time – at least looks-wise.

Being in showbiz is no easy task, with your looks being scrutinised at every turn (OMG, is that a wrinkle I see on his face?), and thanks to a combination of what we think is good genes, proper skincare, a balanced diet and pure luck, these celebs have seemingly discovered the fountain of youth.

From Korean celebs such as Song Joong Ki to local actors such as Aloysius Pang, click or scroll through for a list of Asian celebrities who look enviably younger than they really are.

Sojin (Girl’s Day)

Sojin (Girl’s Day)

Actual age: 30 (on May 21)

Could pass off for: Early 20s

Sojin might be turning 30 in a few days, but she doesn't look a day over 21 with the youthful vibe she exudes.

Due to their outfits and the sound of their music, Girl’s Day has always given off a bright, cheery image that gives us the impression that the girls are all in their early and mid twenties.

If not for the revelation on an episode of Running Man, we might have assumed that all members of Girl’s Day were as young as they look.

Romeo Tan

Actual age: 31

Could pass off for: Early 20s

One might be mistaken that this duke is in his 20s, especially since he had a relatively later head start in showbiz (his official debut was in 2011’s C.L.I.F., when he was 26).

While he’s already crossed the big 3-0, his boyish good looks have earned him a well-deserved spot in our list.

Dara (2NE1)

Actual age: 32 (on Nov 12)

Could pass off as: Early 20s

Thanks to her youthful appearance and vibrant personality, it’s hard to believe that Dara, the second oldest member in 2NE1 (she is eight months younger than Park Bom), is turning 32 in a few months.

When her bare face is occasionally revealed on social media, it shows that Dara can easily pass off as a member of the newer girl groups or even as 2NE1’s maknae (youngest member).

Aloysius Pang

Actual age: 26 (On August 24)

Could pass off for: A teenager

Aloysius donned a school uniform once again for upcoming local film Young & Fabulous, where he plays Royston, a nerd who has dreams of becoming a fashion designer.

While he’s long passed the age of being in secondary school, he looks utterly convincing as the bumbling, introverted designer in the movie.

Young & Fabulous opens in cinemas on May 26. Toggle will be speaking to the cast ahead of the movie’s premiere, so stay tuned for more!

Xiumin (EXO)

Xiumin (EXO)

Actual age: 26

Could pass off for: 18

One of the most famous “baby faces” in K-pop, Xiumin is the oldest member in EXO – though he looks nothing like it (no offence to the other members).

When the 25-year-old is dressed up in school uniform, which he often does for music videos and performances, Xiumin could really pass off as a high school student.

The popular idol is also widely said to bear uncanny resemblance to former Wonder Girls member Sohee. We believe that it has got to do with their doe eyes and adorable puffy cheeks.

Michelle Chong

Actual age: 39

Could pass off for: Late 20s

Multi-hyphenate Michelle Chong might be turning 40 next year, but she seems to have mastered the art of freezing time – at least, in terms of her looks.

We won’t give too much away about what she professes to be her secret to her youthful looks – you’ll have to wait for her upcoming Toggle Talk episode for that!

Song Joong Ki

Actual age: 31 (On Sep 19)

Could pass off for: Early 20s

Song Joong Ki might have captured the hearts of many all over the world as the charismatic Special Forces Captain Yoo Shi Jin, but to us, he looks more like the recruit that freshly-enlisted NSFs wouldn’t want to introduce to their girlfriends.

Even next to his label-mate Park Bo Gum, who turns 23 next month, Joong Ki doesn’t look like he’s almost a decade older. We expect to say the same about Bo Gum in another 5 years, too.

Derrick Hoh

Actual age: 31 (on Sep 17)

Could pass off as: Mid 20s

It doesn’t feel that long ago since Derrick Hoh first made foray into showbiz by taking part in Channel U’s inaugural reality singing contest Project SuperStar in 2005.

During the past decade, Derrick completed his National Service, packed his bags to pursue a music career in Taiwan and released a viral hit single ‘Forever’ that topped iTunes charts in Singapore. From his Instagram updates, the singer-songwriter, who celebrates his 30th birthday today (Happy birthday!), looks set to announce his new project very soon.

Perhaps it is good genes or perhaps Derrick has some secret maintenance tips that we haven’t learned of, the affable lad looks like he has barely aged since his PSS days.

Donghae (Super Junior)

Actual age: 30 (on Oct 15)

Could pass off for: 5

Super Junior’s Donghae, who turns 29 in October and will be enlisting very soon, is known for his child-like antics and aegyo (cute display of affection) towards his hyungs (a term to address older brothers for male Koreans).

To the fans, Donghae will always be fondly labelled as a “five-year-old boy trapped in a man’s body”.

Ivy Chen

Ivy Chen

Actual age: 34 (on Nov 12)

Could pass off for: Mid 20s

In reality, Taiwanese actress Ivy Chen has already crossed the “big three oh” mark three years ago. In our minds, the diminutive actress can easily pass off as a 20-something. And she probably owes it to her elfin image and youthful roles in idol dramas such as Skip Beat.

Jang Na-ra

Jang Na-ra

Actual age: 35

Could pass off for: Mid 20s

2016 marks the 16th year since Jang Na-ra first made her debut as a singer under S.M. Entertainment. The multi-talented artiste later found success as an actress and subsequently moved to China to develop her showbiz career in 2005. She returned to Korea six years later, and has since become a regular face in K-dramas.

Much like her fellow ageless beauties in showbiz, Na-ra’s petite frame helps to reduce the years in her age while her well-maintained complexion shows no signs of betrayal.

Last year, the well-loved thespian acted opposite Seo In Guk, 28, in mystery-thriller drama I Remember You. Despite the six-year age difference between them, the collaboration was delightful, both in terms of onscreen chemistry and physical appearances.

Jimmy Lin

Jimmy Lin

Actual age: 42 (on Oct 15)

Could pass off for: Early 30s

In 2013, Taiwanese singer-actor Jimmy Lin achieved the second peak in his showbiz career after he joined Chinese parent-child reality programme Dad, Where Are You Going with his son Kimi. Arguably the best-looking dad on the show, Jimmy looked exactly the same as he did when he stole tens of thousands of hearts during his “Little Whirlwind” (Xiao Xuan Feng) days.

Jimmy announced via Weibo in August that his wife Kelly Chen is pregnant with their second child and is expected to give birth at the end of the year. At the age of 41, Jimmy has a blissful family, illustrious showbiz and car-racing career as well as looks that even some of the younger actors aren’t able to match.

We are very, very envious.

Julian Cheung

Julian Cheung

Actual age: 45 (On Aug 27)

Could pass off for: Mid 30s

Another male artiste who seems to be aging in reverse has to be Julian Cheung. What sorcery is this?

24 years after he first entered showbiz, Julian continues to mesmerise fans as the charismatic “Captain Cool”. Besides frequent visits to the beauty salon and good skincare habits, the actor’s secret to his age-defying looks could possibly stem from a healthy balance between work and family (his relationship with wife Anita Yuen and son Morton is worthy of admiration) as well as a positive mindset towards all things, as seen from his Facebook posts.
