As actors playing actors in upcoming Channel 8 drama The Dream Makers 2 (ZZSF 2), reel life is as real as it gets. Just for the fun of it, at the lensing ceremony for the drama yesterday, we decide to put these actors in the shoes of other famous people who have had to deal with a handful of sticky situations in real life: remember the infamous iCloud hacking incident involving Jennifer Lawrence, or when Australia's Next Top Model's host (2010 edition) announced the wrong winner by mistake or – and to list the most mundane example of them all – the Hong Kong and Taiwanese celebrities’ many unfortunate encounters with the paparazzi?

Celebrities are often the subject of public scrutiny which is, admittedly, all part and parcel of the fame game. As public figures, they sometimes find themselves as the receiving end of unwanted attention, especially when all they want to do is something as simple as buying breakfast from the economic beehoon stall (like us) or an extra value meal at your neighbourhood McDonalds. But thanks to the rise of social media, photos of them – featuring the artistes in their most au naturel and, sometimes, unglam states - are snapped and shared online, no holds barred. And not everyone’s savvy enough to pull a Stefanie Sun who made a joke out of her awkward picture and shrugged it off coolly, y’know.

So what would this bunch of actors do if - god forbid - they are caught in the same situation? Read on to find out more.

The Dream Makers 2 debuts December 4, Channel 8 at 9pm.

Background information: Back in 2010, when we interviewed Kim Hyun Joong, the Korean singer revealed that a fan once entered his house under the pretext of being a mailman – when he was sick and drowsy – cleaned up his entire house and even cooked a meal for him. So we posed Dennis the same question to see how he’d react.

“If this fan is a lady, she’s quite pleasant looking (laughs) and I like her character, I’d be straightforward and say: ‘Why not we get married?’ But if this fan is a guy, I’d ask him: ‘You cook well and the food is nice. Are you gay?’ And if he gives me a positive reply, I’d tell him: ‘Ok, I’d try to convert’. (Guffaws)

His rational for thinking this way? “It’s a good surprise. He or she is not doing anything bad and would even cook and clean for me. I really need a person like that to help me. Seriously. (Laughs)”

Ed’s note: We think what Dennis really needs is a part-time maid in his life.

Background information: Anything can and will go wrong on live TV – and this was what exactly happened to Australia’s Next Top Model host Sarah Murdoch who made a huge boo-boo and crowned the wrong girl the winner. So we asked Julie what she’d do if her name was called out by mistake.

“Oh no. Maybe if they have announced the other person’s name, I’d walk her up to stage, congratulate her and then walk back to my seat. It doesn’t feel good but I’m sure I’d have my chances. The whole of Singapore would be watching (the show) and maybe I’d even be on the newspapers and headlines the next morning. I might as well be graceful, smile as I make my way there and exchange a hug before I return to my seat.”

Background information: A woman picked up the lost mobile phone of Korean actor Park Yoochun’s former girlfriend and tried to blackmail the actor for money. Speaking of mobile phones, this also brings to mind that one time Hollywood actress Jennifer Lawrence’s iCloud was hacked, with private - and nude- photos of the actress shared online. So what would Rui En do if she finds herself in a similar situation?

“Wah that is a huge nightmare. How’d I react? So the person wants money? The problem is – if you give money, how do you make sure the person hasn’t backed up the stuff, right? I’d go to the police. (What if your iCloud or online storage gets hacked?) Well, all I can say is [I have] no nude photos… Your question has raised a lot of fear in me, I think I might have to re-look my attitude towards that.”

Background information: Anything can and will go wrong on live TV – and this was exactly what happened to Australia’s Next Top Model host Sarah Murdoch who made a huge boo-boo and crowned the wrong girl the winner on live TV, no less. So we asked Romeo what he’d do if his name was called out by mistake.

“Huh?! So it’s not me? I will still walk up to the stage, take over the microphone and thank the presenter for [giving me] 1 minute of fame and then take my leave. I’d also smile and clap for the other winner. But of course this is what I’d do since I have time to think about it now. If I were really caught in such a situation, I’d just want to dig a hole and hide myself in that moment…”

Jeanette Aw reprises her role as Zhao Fei Er, who is now the TV station’s ‘Ah Jie’ after three years

Background situation: Thanks to the paparazzi, celebrities are often photographed hanging out with their friends and subsequently speculated to be dating each other, which is exactly how Yvonne Lim’s budding romance with B.A.D’s Alex Tien was first exposed too. What would Jeanette do if photos of her and a guy friend made headlines for their dating rumours?

“Actually I wouldn’t even bother clarifying because I think it’s really nothing, it’s just a friend. It’s okay for people to talk [about it] as long as I know what’s going on.”

“(Ed: So have you ever come across photos of you taken secretly on social media?) Actually when I do see people secretly taking photos and I’m probably eating and stuffing my face with food, that’s something I cannot stop but I always hope they can come up to me and ask for a nice photo… Usually as an artiste we won’t say no unless we’re in some kind of getup that is embarrassing and it really shouldn’t be taken."

What would Ian Fang, who plays rising star Joey, do if he was blackmailed for his lost phone?

“I’m a very smart person, I think. If he wants money, sure, no problem, I’d hunt him down. I will transfer him the money first but I have friends all over the world to hunt him down. I’m from China y’know. Don’t mess with people from China.”

Background information: Stefanie (yes, our local songbird) was photographed queuing up for McDonalds in her home clothes. The photo was circulated online and eventually went viral and Stef made an ingenious response to the photo by adding cute stickers to it. What would Zoe do if she finds a photo of her at the hawker center circulating on the internet?

“I think that’s quite cool because people will finally get to see me in my real life – how I actually look like and how I’m actually leading the same kind of life as everyone else. It’s good because the person is actually helping me to show everyone else that I’m not special and that I’m just like them.”

And what would Rui En do if someone snaps a photo of her at the hawker center and shares it online?

“This is a situation that often happens as it is ‘cos I’m always in t-shirt, flip flops and shorts, no make-up and messy hair. And they will take pictures and they will upload it. But if they come up to me and are nice enough to tell me, I’d politely tell them I look terrible and suggest to do it another day. Most Singaporeans are very polite and would oblige, but the ones who insist on taking, there’s nothing I can do about it.

“(Ed: Have you ever searched for such photos of yourself online?) No. I’m quite clear how lok kok (or underdressed) I look. So I don’t need to see photographic evidence… I’m a true blue Singaporean - shorts and slippers are a must have… Sometimes I’m in the mood I’d dress up, or if I’m going somewhere nice. But most of the time noooo. That’s my uniform.”

What would Edwin do if he finds pictures of him and his girlfriend on the papers?

“Firstly I’d calm myself down and wonder when exactly the photo was taken. There’s nothing much we can do about it because if they snap a photo, it is lawfully their property. Personally, I have nothing to hide so I’d just be like ‘Yay, publicity’ I guess?

“(Ed: You don’t hold back when it comes to sharing photos of your girlfriend on Instagram too) I think the more you hide, the more things you have to do and you’d have to live like a thief. The more open you are, the more accepting others will be of you.”
